Lamoine State Park, Maine

10/4/2022 We woke this morning to a beautiful sunny day, and looked forward to the drive heading back towards the coast. But first, we had to get coffee and tour the town of Moosehead Lake.

Moosehead Lake

A lady told us where we could see the lake from a distance to capture a great view.

Spectacle Pond
Mitch got a beautiful picture of spectacle pond on the other side of the road
The fall colors along the way

Mitch has been diligent in his search of my real sugar Pepsi, and it paid off! As I sat in Harvy looking at pictures on my camera, I’d forgotten what he went in for. I sensed motion outside my window and when I turned my head, I see my sweetheart arms full of real sugar Pepsi! He had the biggest smile, it was the most beautiful bouquet of blue and white cans I’ve ever seen. I was elated! He bought the store out!

It’s the smaller cans, but oh boy, oh boy, am I’m ready to get into some sunflower seeds now, unfortunately we are about out! Haha oh life!
It’s first come first serve here in Lamoine since it’s the end of the season
We got some prime real estate at this campground
This is the Jordan River, that goes out into the gulf of Maine.
We even got so warm we had to take off our coats! The coast is rocky and has seashells. The fishing boats are anchored and empty at this time.
Mitch captured this Fall Sunset at Lamoine state park just steps from our camsite # 58

Ok, tomorrow Acadia, for real… unless things change. Thanks for joining us along our travels!

More North!

10/3/2022 We decided to head up a little further before we head back down south

It’s supposed to be 31 degrees tonight!

We are staying at Moosehead Lake family campground for the night

Mitch got more lights for Harvy, so he’ll be glowing in the night
On the way up we stopped at the tallest waterfall in Maine and hiked to it

Tomorrow, back towards the east coast. Arcadia National Park here we come!

The Maine tourist

We made our way to Portland Maine today after leaving Sebago Lake

It’s a huge campground
It was about 40 degrees this morning when we woke up
Harvy and Mitch at Sebago Lake Campground

It’s about an hour drive from Sebago to Portland Maine. we made a few stops, in search of Pepsi made with sugar (I have an inflammation reaction to high fructose corn syrup) and there is none to be found.. 😩 sunflower seeds and Pepsi are a great traveling combination, let’s hope we find some along the way. We also had to stop at camping world, seems as if the shower skylight area has a wee bit of a leak when it rains. Wouldn’t be too much of a problem being that it’s the shower, but it’s become our storage area.

There’s still room to cram a few more things

We made it to Portland Maine, and our first stop was to get a taste of the famous potato doughnut at Holy Doughnut

The Holy Doughnut made from potato
The most popular place in town, the line was around the corner and two hours later.. the line was still around the corner
The variety to choose from
We got 6, each one a different flavor

We had to find out what all the hype was about. And I gotta say, it’s worth the wait. The doughnut is crisp on the outside, it has little pockets of holes on the inside. The taste is delicious without being too much of any one thing in a bite. Definitely the best doughnut I’ve ever had.

Portland Maine harbor
They had live music and it was packed with people when we walked by
Sea bags are repurposed ship sails
Really cool bags and I love that they’re made from used sails. Prices I saw ranged from a small item $30-to a large duffel bag that I really liked for $225. So I took this picture instead
It was pretty busy, street parking was full and the parking lot charges $25 for 3 hours and it was a minimum of 3 hours to park in the lot.
We visited the cemetery in town after reading about how old it was
This is the oldest we found, 1733
Stephen and Tabitha Longfellow, the grandparents of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow the famous poet
Christopher Christian Manuel
The first president of the Portland anti-slavery society

Some of the tombstones are illegible, tilted, crumbling and yet still standing after hundreds of years

Today we decided to Thai one on, thanks to yelp we finally found one we loved

Pom’s Thai Taste Restaurant crab Rangoon
Chicken Lo-main
The sunsets on Portland Maine as we head to Bayley’s Camping resort for the night (yay for off season affordability ($49.00 a night))

Tomorrow it’s beaches, lighthouses and more food!

Hello New Hampshire

10/1/22

As we leave maplewoods campground had to get one last picture
We stopped into a small town, West Danville Vermont along the way
The post office is in the store and they have the old school combinations
The postmaster told us a story about back in the day they mailed children
Mount Washington Hotel in New Hampshire
The leaves are starting to change
The roads are lined with leaf peepers
A waterfall along the way? What? How awesome is that! It’s off of Crawford notch road.. silver cascade New Hampshire

We made it to Maine! Staying the night at Sabato Lake state park campground, and yes the prices are getting higher the farther East we travel! For a night stay, being from out of state, it was $49.05.. but they do have electricity and water. Very nice campground, right next to the lake, tall trees and cute chipmunks.

Oh and Mitch found a string of lights at a yard sale we stopped at today! The light of my life, loves his lights! “Temporary for now” Mitch noted.
“He’ll surely Griswald up Harvy in the future” I say
