Staying, Sweating and Home Spa’n,

First things fleas, I think we got it under control.  I’ve been doing a daily flea search on the dogs and none have been spotted.  Charlie, still with his cone, is healing well and the house has been a’ salted for a week now and no fleas are in the vacuum container. Here’s to hoping!

How much longer you gotta wear that thing Charlie?

We were supposed to head out of San Antonio this last Monday, the 25th, but Mother Nature wasn’t going to make it easy.  It was raining buckets, and about 35 degrees.  We had a family meeting and decided if we could stay at the park for a few more days at a good price and wait out this cold snap, we would.  To our surprise, since we’ve stayed a month, we’d be getting a much better daily rate. We decided to stay two more days, until we realized that meant we’d be traveling the day before Thanksgiving.  We’ll that’s just crazy, why wouldn’t we just stay and have Thanksgiving with our friends? We didn’t know why we wouldn’t either, so we are planning on leaving this Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. We are heading East, to Louisiana! Cajun food here we come! Yum.

In regards to the sweating…. it’s the house, not us.

It’s been pretty cold and the trailer is so air tight that we’re getting massive condensation.  Once we realized what was going on we wiped down the windows, the walls, inside the cabinets, opened windows, put rice in bowls thinking maybe that will soak up some the moisture (does anyone know if that even works?) and opened all the cupboards.

It’s now a trade off, run the heater more often and stay cool inside because we have the windows cracked and not have any condensation or close up the house and let it sweat. Of course there is also the option of not breathing so much, but we like our lives and would like to keep living, so we’ve opted to keep it cool. I thought I would post pictures of the inside of our place finally, since we did a deep cleaning and it was so nice and organized.

Yes, two sinks in the bathroom! Sooo, nice to have!

What does one do with time to spare? They begin to think about their hair!  Amy came down to visit us the other night and I began to voice some idea’s I was having about my more than unruly hair.  I was contemplating either cutting my hair super short where a razor may be involved or perming it and letting it go crazy poufy.  Being in the humidity and having super thick hair has made it seem very heavy; I was just ready for a change. I told Mitch I would let him cut my hair if he wanted, and he was willing to try and thin it out for me.

To my and Amy’s surprise, the hubby is a natural.

Yes, he cut and thinned out my hair, and the next day painted my toenails.  Oh and he  fixed that leak in papa’s camper! It was the screws in the fridge cover that weren’t sealed well enough. Now we don’t have to hurry to a dealer and papa can sleep soundly without dripping water on his head!

Yahoo..I don’t mean to rub it in to you ladies who’s husbands don’t do hair, nails and handyman stuff, your guys probably have their awesome points as well, but seriously my man ROCKS!

We hope that you all have a wonderful, love filled, blessed Thanksgiving. May your bellies be full, spirits be lifted and your kindness overflow to create a happiness bubble that encompasses all who you encounter today and everyday that follows.

Flea Ring Circus

It seems as if it’s been weeks since I last posted, we have plenty to update you about.

We went to the San Antonio Zoo, with Greg, Amy and their girls.

It was perfect weather, rented papa a wheelchair for the occasion and we enjoyed a relaxed day of seeing all the animals.

I would have to say my favorite was the butterfly house, you have to pay an additional $1.50 to go into it, but it was so worth it.  They fly around, land on you and you can learn a lot from the girls working there about their habits, lifespan and where they came from.

After the zoo, we decided to stop into the Flea Market right near our RV park.  I found myself a ukulele for $14, if dad takes up playing the spoons we will have quite the band.  Why the ukulele you ask. Well, the guy at the music store when we got Mitch his harmonica said it was the easiest instrument to learn.

Papa found some coins and lost his cane, and Mitch got a blue’s harmonica.  We had a wonderful day last week of just doing hobbies.  It was awesome, I took out my crochet, something I haven’t done in about 10 years, Mitch was working on a foil art project and papa was doing his word search.  Finally a day of nothing pressing, no stressing, it was just so great.  We had planned to go to the four other Missions here in San Antonio and ride our bikes the next day, but that night we noticed Charlie scratching something crazy.   Oh my, he has bites all over him.  We thought maybe it was those darn fire ants, until…. Yes,  a flea we spotted!  I have to own this one. I tried to be cheap, felt as if our dogs were immune to such things and went with the least expensive flea and tic prevention.  What a mess!  Milo has them, Charlie seems to be allergic to the bites and is miserable.  We’d put the cheap stuff on them a few weeks ago and we were able to apply the frontline plus the next day.  Before doing that though we cleaned the entire house, ended up buying a vacuum because ours wasn’t doing squat, washed everything, washed the dogs in Dawn and Mitch shaved down Charlie. All the things that you are supposed to do, we did.  Now with the Frontline, we called about putting it on them after a wash and they said we didn’t have to wait a certain number of hours, as long as they were dry.  We thought we were taking those stinkers out. Finally getting a hold on that situation,  the next day we went to the San Jose Mission and rode our bikes on the trail.

We ended up seeing only two of the four Missions, only took pics of one, but what a wonderful way to spend the day, especially since it was FREE! We had a real nice time, weather was great and actually ate some pecans that had fallen off a tree along our ride.

Papa roamed the grounds of the mission while Mitch and I went for our ride.

A couple days later we went to the Flea market again where I got myself a backpack purse, so when my wonderful husband carries it for me it won’t seem so girly, papa got more coins, and we each ate an ice treat. It was nice to just enjoy some shopping for nothing and not worry about the other kind of fleas. Until…

Four days into the frontline and it isn’t working, there are still live fleas on the dogs and they have new bites.  Without using any other chemicals, we have to figure out what to do to rid these fleas.  We sprinkled the carpet with household salt, used apple cider vinegar and water as a spray on the dogs, used a flea comb, put DE on the grass outside of our RV, purchased lavender mineral oil and mixed it with water to help repel the fleas.  It has just been a flea fiasco.  We also invested in a cone collar for Charlie to stop him from scratching and try to let those scabs heal along with some hot spot ointment and Neosporin on the bad spots.

I refuse to go potty useless you take of this silly cone

It hasn’t been fun for any of us.  We did get the tie rod fixed on the truck; it was only a 5-hour wait! Arg! During that wait, we all found change in the parking lot when we were roaming around, it added up to around 13 cents.  Thankfully we found a different place to change our oil.  He was awesome, knew diesels, was super informative and a great price.  If anyone is ever in San Antonio and needs work done on a vehicle we would recommend Barry’s Oil LLC in Marion TX.

Monday, Amy’s parents, Bob and Marsha had us over for dinner.  We wont be here for Thanksgiving and being the kind and wonderful people they are, they had a pre-Thanksgiving dinner.  It was a meal fit for royalty and a lovely layout.

It rained a good rain last night about 3:30 in the morning, and papa woke up to the misting of drops on his head.   Now the darn camplite has seriously sprung a leak in the ceiling.  Before it was in a different section, just a spot that seemed discolored.  Now it is a full-blown, dag nab it leak!!!

Like water off a ducks back
This guy would be a happy camper in papa’s place

As I go from leaks to fleas in my thoughts, I realize it’s all but not. To have the simple life, one must not have things to make strife.  I will take these woes and fix them as life goes.  But hey, it’s 75 degrees, and I am grateful that I will not freeze.

Bulls, Busters, and Baking

Yes, my people, as the title implies we have all that to talk about, and more.

Last Sunday we experienced the Enchanted Springs Ranch.

Looks like there’s trouble in this town

We had a good ol’ fashioned day of Western Themed Entertainment. We arrived expecting a massive crowd and were surprised to be only a part of a small group.

I’ll take care of that trouble with my cane pistol

We of course took tons of pictures of the themed old west town, talked to a buffalo who never came near us and went on a covered wagon ride, pulled by a tractor by a young fella dressed like the towns marshal.

2photo
Sure glad I didn’t have to do the route with this kind of transportation

On the wagon ride there were antelope, zebra, deer, long horn cattle, Emu, turtles and some huge catfish.

Talk about taking the bull by the horns!

We all got to hang out with their super mellow bull, and get pics with him. I forgot his name but am sure it begins with a “B”.

After the ride we watched a show by Pistol Packin Paula, the one and only female two-time world champion gun spinner.  She twirls two real .45 Cimarron’s and handles bullwhips like she’s a super hero with lightening in her hands.

3photo

Thankfully she’s good at what she does because she pulled Mitch out of the crowd and had him hold onto a piece of Styrofoam and broke it with the whip.

He thought she had her eyes covered the whole time, but she took the handkerchief off her eyes when she actually hit it out of his hand.

She didn’t even know that  Tuesday was his 45th Birthday.  I don’t know why I keep telling him he is halfway to 90, probably because I’m amazed at how fast time goes, and that soon I will be half way to 80. Eeeks.

For Mitch’s Birthday we went to Dave and Buster’s with Greg and Amy.  Mitch was so happy with his steak, he considered getting another one when we ordered Papa’s to take home to him. We played some games and Mitch got a T-shirt and a huge ashtray with the winnings. Amy described Dave and Buster’s the best when she said it’s like an adult Chucky Cheese. If you’ve never gone it’s where you can drink alcohol and win more than a sticky finger, stuffed animal or a laffy taffy.  Shoot, if you have enough points you can get a waffle maker or a blender.

Mitch decided he wanted chocolate cake with chocolate frosting for the big 45.  At first we were contemplating making a cake and then realized it wouldn’t fit in the oven.  So we decided on cupcakes.  It was the first time either one of us had ever made cupcakes.  Seriously!  They turned out great.

Birthday song from friends and family, 45 candles burning and one wish made
One thing we’ve learned is with a smaller oven is it takes a lot less time to cook, so we take the recommended cook time, cut it in half and then check it often.  We have also taken on making recipes on the back of boxes that we always wanted to try and just never made time to do.  It has been awesome. Another big step for us has been making a list of the dinners we want for the  upcoming week, see what we need and actually just shop for those items.  That’s a huge change for us.  We used to just get things willy nilly, and then figure out what to make.  I have really enjoying this new way dinning.  It’s a lot less stressful than trying to figure out dinner when you’re already hungry and it’s getting late.
We have upgraded a couple of our light fixtures to LED.  They are an investment of money for sure, but definitely worthwhile.  One of our lights got so hot, it melted the switch and then burnt out the bulbs.  Once we started looking we realized another one was on the verge of a melt down.  The other light that had to go was the one above the stove.  Anytime we were cooking, we would have to get the flashlight out to see if the meat was done, no kidding! It’s like night a day, pun intended.

Friday night we partook of the events in the RV park and played Bingo.  Papa and I each won $5, and Mitch keeps his streak of never ever winning a single game of bingo in his life.
